Metal Cabinets from North Dakota

These are cabinets that my Great and Uncle Milo and Hedy had in their farmhouse in Fullerton, North Dakota. My cousin and his wife and kids are now rehabbing the farmhouse, and graciously parted with these cabinets. My other cousin and my dad graciously drove them to Chicago. Here they are:

'Ready Powder Coating' is a place outside Chicago that does powder coating, primarily for motorcycles, bike frames, etc. Dan and I wanted to powder coat the cabinets white, to match the kitchen. A guy named Dan (good name)and his mom (named Rose, same name as my grandma! Good sign) and dad run the place, and they were so amazing- they saved every little piece and labelled them before paintingthe cabinets-

super service!!Here they are after:

Lots of updates!

So, I haven't posted since August- Take a look at what's going on at our house:
Kitchen!
This is what the kitchen looked like the day we started to take it apart:

First was the demo of the cabinets- Goodbye, purple!

Then Dan cut into the ceiling to wire electricity for light fixtures

The kitchen floor was half tile, have wood. So, we started with smashing up the tile

This is what our kitchen looked like after breaking it apart- good times.

Elaine and Jim peeled up the rest of the floor- which was wood, and hauled it away-Thank you!!

It was time to finish electrical, mud and prime walls, and make the flourescent orange disappear. Here's a picture showing the walls before they are done, and will be the last of orange wall!

With the walls done, the wood floors were next to be installed. After this, the cabinets are next!

Ryder Truck Weekend, with Special Guests

Dan was extremely pleased with the Ryder truck's flat steering wheel. The whole weekend, he made comments of wanting to become a professional driver.

My cousin Chris offered to drop off some cabinets from Fullerton ND, for Dan and me, and my Dad joined him so we got to see them both! Then, we went to Dan's dad (another truck), for a pick up- we got a monster taco mattress! Aaaagh! Taco Mattress invading our house!!

Thanks Chris, Ken and Jim!

Dan's obsession: The Ceiling Fan, the Conclusion!

Well, he did it. Dan tossed and turned, trying to come up with a pretty solution to installing a ceiling fan onto a peaked ceiling. Here's what he did:

First, he crafted then attached this little piece of sheet rock:

THEN! He did this:

And then he did a bunch of other things, including a lot of swearing, but this was the end result!

She's a beaut, isn't she? And, so quiet! Thanks Danny, I love the new fan!

Master Bedroom: Closets!

Closets in our master bedroom are complete! Ken came over and was a BIG help:
